Fiber patch panel: 19-inch rack, LGX and sliding drawer
A fiber patch panel (a fiber optic patch panel) is a 19-inch rack panel where a fiber cable ends on adapters, so patch cords can be plugged, unplugged and changed. ZeroLine Connect supplies them for central offices, head ends and data rooms: rack-mount panels, sliding-drawer panels, LGX cassettes and high-density MPO panels, loaded with the adapters and pigtails you name. This is not a wall box. Wall outlets, indoor boxes and outdoor FAT distribution boxes are on the fiber termination box page.

Fiber patch panel types
19-inch fiber patch panels: rack-mount, sliding drawers, LGX cassettes and high-density MPO panels.
Type
- Rack-mount patch panel
- Sliding-drawer panel
- LGX cassette
- High-density MPO panel
| Type | What it is | Typical density | Where it goes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rack-mount patch panel | 19-inch panel, adapters on the front, splice tray inside | 12–48 ports per 1U; more in 2U–4U | Central offices, data rooms, head ends |
| Sliding-drawer panel | The same rack panel built as a drawer that pulls out | Same rack sizes as the fixed panel | Central offices, where the splice tray has to be worked on in front of the rack |
| LGX cassette | A cassette with adapters on its front, the package we already supply for PLC splitters | Splitter cassettes 1×2–1×32; MPO-to-LC cassettes of 12 or 24 fibers | Distribution hubs and rack chassis |
| High-density MPO panel | MPO trunks land on the panel; cassettes break out to LC | 1U to 4U, 96 to 144+ fibers per U | Data-center rows between racks |
Port counts are typical figures already published on our fiber termination box range (12–48 per 1U, more in 2U–4U) and our MPO cabling range (1U to 4U, 96 to 144+ fibers per U). LGX splitter ratios are the cassette range on the PLC splitter page; MPO cassette fiber counts are the cassette row on the MPO page. The offer states the panel supplied.
| Part | What it is | This page |
|---|---|---|
| Fiber patch panel | One 19-inch rack unit, or a few, of adapters for patching | Yes. Rack, sliding drawer, LGX and high-density MPO |
| Fiber termination box | A wall outlet, an indoor box or an outdoor FAT distribution box | No. Those are on the termination box page, including pole and wall boxes |
| ODF (optical distribution frame) | A frame that holds many panels and cross-connects hundreds of fibers in a central office | Named here only so it is not confused with one panel. The ODN family page lists ODF as rack-mount sliding drawers. A separate ODF page is not this one |
The termination-box, distribution-box, closure and ODF split is the one already on our fiber termination box page. The ODF row there says it terminates and cross-connects hundreds of fibers in a central office.
| Item | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Rack height | 1U holds the typical 12–48 adapter ports; 2U–4U hold more. High-density MPO panels are quoted as fibers per U, not as duplex ports |
| Fixed or sliding drawer | A drawer pulls out for splicing. Our ODN range lists central-office frames as rack-mount sliding drawers |
| Adapters | LC or SC, UPC or APC. PON panels are usually SC/APC. Ethernet and data-centre duplex panels are usually LC/UPC |
| Loaded or empty | Empty panels take your own pigtails. Loaded panels ship with adapters and 0.9 mm pigtails, in 12-colour sets, spliced or left for the site |
| LGX or MPO cassettes | An LGX cassette is the front-adapter package we supply for splitters. An MPO panel uses MPO-to-LC cassettes of 12 or 24 fibers, Base-8 or Base-12 |
| Labels | Port labels to your rack plan |
Options
- 19-inch rack-mount or sliding-drawer panels, 1U to 4U
- LC or SC adapters, APC or UPC, loaded with pigtails or empty
- LGX cassettes, including a PLC splitter cassette where the panel is also the split
- High-density MPO panels, 1U to 4U, with the polarity method of the site
Tests and documents with every order
- Adapter and pigtail loss checked on loaded panels, the same check we publish for loaded boxes
- Pigtails held to the patch-cord limits: insertion loss ≤ 0.3 dB and return loss ≥ 50 dB UPC or ≥ 60 dB APC, typical maxima per mated connector
- Splice tray fitted where the panel is the splice point
- Sample approval before volume
Terms
Ordering, testing and delivery
Typical terms. Your offer states the exact terms for your order.
- Minimum order
-
One drum of cable, one reel of fiber or one carton of passive components. Mixed BOMs are welcome. Samples for evaluation typically ship in 1–3 weeks.
- Lead time
-
Stock items 5–10 working days. Made-to-order cable typically 2–4 weeks. Large framework lots ship on the agreed rollout schedule. Fiber prices moved sharply in 2026, so every cable offer states how long its price holds next to the lead time.
Fiber and cable prices in 2026 - Test reports
-
OTDR data for every drum of cable, insertion and return loss for every connectorised assembly, loss and uniformity reports for splitters, and our pre-shipment inspection report. Third-party pre-shipment inspection on request, at the buyer’s cost.
- Labelling and packing
-
Drum and carton labels to your scheme: project, lot, route or rack. Export cartons, and wooden or plywood drums for cable.
- Payment
-
T/T with 30% deposit and 70% before shipment, or L/C at sight. Rollouts can run under a framework agreement with staged lots.

FAQ
Fiber patch panels: questions buyers ask
What is a fiber patch panel?
It is a 19-inch rack panel where incoming fiber is terminated on adapters. A patch cord plugs into the front, so a link can be moved without opening a splice. Behind the adapters is either a splice tray and pigtails, or an MPO cassette that breaks a trunk out to LC. It is rack hardware. It is not a wall outlet or a pole-mounted distribution box.
What is the difference between a fiber patch panel and a fiber termination box?
A fiber patch panel mounts in a 19-inch rack: fixed, sliding drawer, LGX or high-density MPO. A fiber termination box is the wall and pole hardware: a 1–4 port outlet in the home, an indoor box in a riser, or an outdoor FAT distribution box that holds a splitter and serves drops. Both can end a cable on adapters. The mounting and the density are different, and they are different pages.
How many ports does a 1U fiber patch panel have?
On the rack-mount panels we list with termination boxes, a typical 1U holds 12 to 48 adapter ports, and 2U to 4U hold more. A high-density MPO panel is counted in fibers, not duplex ports: our MPO range lists 96 to 144 or more fibers per U, in 1U to 4U. The offer states the count for the panel quoted.
What is an LGX fiber patch panel?
LGX is a cassette with adapters on the front that slides into a rack chassis. We already supply PLC splitters in that package, from 1×2 to 1×32, for distribution hubs and rack chassis. The same chassis takes MPO-to-LC cassettes of 12 or 24 fibers. The cassette is how a panel is added or swapped without replacing the whole shelf.
Is a fiber patch panel the same as an ODF?
No. A patch panel is one shelf of adapters. An ODF, an optical distribution frame, is the frame that holds many shelves and cross-connects hundreds of fibers in a central office. Our ODN range lists ODF as rack-mount sliding drawers. This page does not specify the frame.
